A reflection on freedom, the Mother flame, prayer, and America’s spiritual destiny through the Teachings of the Ascended Masters®
Liberty as a Sacred Flame
Liberty is more than a national ideal. In the Teachings of the Ascended Masters®, liberty is a sacred flame, a divine responsibility, and a spiritual calling of the soul. It is the freedom to know God, to fulfill one’s divine purpose, and to serve life with courage, love, and wisdom.
The Beloved Goddess of Liberty speaks with the authority of one who holds the flame of freedom for the people of America and for souls throughout the world. Her message calls us to remember that freedom is not passive. It must be cherished, protected, and expressed through prayer, responsibility, unity, and service.
The Goddess of Liberty and the Mother Flame
The Goddess of Liberty is closely connected with the Mother flame — the sacred presence of divine nurturing, protection, courage, and life. In the comments following the dictation, Elizabeth Clare Prophet speaks of the Goddess of Liberty as one who awakens devotion in the hearts of the students and as one who has held the immaculate concept for America’s life, destiny, and service to the world.
This gives us a deeper understanding of liberty. True liberty is not only the right to choose. It is also the responsibility to choose wisely. It is the responsibility to honor life, to protect the soul’s opportunity, and to help create conditions where the Christ consciousness can be born within individuals, families, communities, and nations.
America’s Spiritual Responsibility
In this Pearl of Wisdom, the Goddess of Liberty speaks strongly about the karma of America and the responsibility of a nation whose destiny is tied to the bringing forth of the Christ consciousness. She calls attention to the sacred value of life, the responsibility of free will, and the importance of awakening to both personal and national karma.
While these teachings are profound and, at times, very direct, their deeper message is one of spiritual responsibility. The Goddess of Liberty reminds us that free will is not simply the ability to make choices. Free will carries consequence. It creates karma. It shapes the future of individuals, communities, and nations.
She teaches that karma is connected with the exercise of free will and asks whether mankind has truly exercised free will or has been influenced by the mass consciousness. This is a powerful spiritual question. To be free, we must seek truth, spiritual discernment, and the guidance of the Christ Self.
Prayer as a Force for Awakening
One of the most hopeful teachings in this Pearl is the power of prayer. The Goddess of Liberty gives an opportunity for prayer and explains that every prayer uttered in the heart is adjusted by the wisdom of the Christ Self and by the will of God.
This is a beautiful teaching for spiritual seekers. It reminds us that prayer is not limited by distance, circumstance, or outer appearance. When prayer is offered sincerely and in alignment with divine will, it becomes a living current of light.
The Goddess of Liberty also teaches that what we call forth for one person can be multiplied for many. If we pray for one who is sick, that call can be extended to millions who need healing in mind, body, emotions, and soul. This is the “maximizing” of the call — the understanding that prayer offered with love can bless far beyond what the outer mind can imagine.
For this reason, prayer is not a small act. It is spiritual service. It is participation in God’s work. It is one way that sincere hearts can help lift the burdens of the world.
The Science of the Spoken Word
The Goddess of Liberty calls Keepers of the Flame to recognize their responsibility to amplify the Christ flame through the science of the spoken Word. In the Teachings of the Ascended Masters®, spoken prayer, decrees, affirmations, and invocations are understood as practical spiritual tools.
Through the spoken Word, students learn to direct light, invoke divine assistance, call for healing, and serve the needs of humanity. The voice becomes an instrument of prayer. The heart becomes an altar. The individual becomes a co-worker with God in calling forth freedom, protection, healing, and illumination.
This is one of the reasons spiritual community is so important. When hearts gather together in prayer, the momentum of devotion is strengthened. The call becomes a chorus of faith. The Teaching Center becomes a place where light can be anchored for the blessing of the city, the nation, and the world.
George Washington, Valley Forge, and America’s Destiny
This Pearl also carries a meaningful connection to the Philadelphia region through Valley Forge and George Washington. In the comments following the dictation, Elizabeth Clare Prophet refers to the vision that the Goddess of Liberty gave to George Washington on the battlefield as he prayed in the cold winter at Valley Forge. In that vision, the Goddess of Liberty revealed the destiny of America and the saving of the nation through the rallying of the people around the banner of unity.
For the Philadelphia Community Teaching Center, this connection is especially powerful. Philadelphia and its surrounding region hold a deep place in America’s story of liberty, sacrifice, and divine destiny. Valley Forge was not merely a place of hardship. It became a place of testing, endurance, prayer, and perseverance.
George Washington’s example reminds us that freedom is not won by comfort alone. Freedom asks for sacrifice, courage, discipline, and faith. It asks individuals and communities to stand for something higher than themselves.
Micah and the Banner of Unity
One of the most beautiful themes in this Pearl is unity. Elizabeth Clare Prophet explains that Unity is the angel Micah, the angel who led the children of Israel through the wilderness, across the Red Sea, and toward the Promised Land.
Micah represents the banner of union — a reminder that in times of struggle, division, and confusion, the people of God are called to remember that they are brothers and sisters of one flame.
This message is deeply needed today. The world often pulls people into separation, fear, and division. But the flame of liberty calls us higher. It calls us to spiritual oneness, to brotherhood and sisterhood, to forgiveness, to cooperation, and to the remembrance that the light of God lives within every soul.
Unity does not mean sameness. It means coming together around divine purpose. It means allowing love, prayer, and the Christ consciousness to become stronger than the forces that divide.
Keeping the Flame of Life Together
At the close of the comments following the dictation, the message turns toward oneness and dedication. The students are invited to affirm unity with one another, with the ascended masters, and with the Spirit of the Great White Brotherhood. The call is to keep the flame of life together.
This is a beautiful message for any spiritual community. A Teaching Center is not only a place to attend services. It is a place to keep the flame. It is a place where seekers can pray, learn, serve, and strengthen one another on the path.
To keep the flame of life together means to honor the divine spark within ourselves and others. It means to support the awakening of the soul. It means to stand for life, truth, freedom, and unity in a world that needs spiritual strength.
A Message for Philadelphia Today
Philadelphia is known as a city of liberty, but the deeper work of liberty continues in the hearts of its people. The outer symbols of freedom invite us to discover the inner flame of freedom — the freedom to know God, to serve life, to pray with faith, and to build true spiritual community.
The message of the Goddess of Liberty reminds us that freedom must be guarded by wisdom, strengthened by prayer, and fulfilled through unity. It calls us to remember that each soul has a purpose, each prayer has power, and each community of light can help anchor greater blessing for the world.
At the Philadelphia Community Teaching Center, this sacred call continues through prayer, worship, spiritual study, fellowship, and service. As we gather in the name of God and the Ascended Masters, we participate in the work of keeping the flame of freedom alive — not only for ourselves, but for our city, our nation, and all life.
May the flame of liberty, unity, and divine love be kindled in every heart.
